frogs on skulls.

Last weekend we went to Salamanca, known for being the university town.

It had it's own Plaza Mayor, which wasn't quite as epic as Madrid's but had tons of people sitting around eating gelato or relaxing.

Daniela, Allie, me, our Spanish friend Kris.

The weird thing about the plaza was we saw an absurd number of bachelor and bachelorette parties, each group wearing a different ridiculous costume. One guy's friends made him sit and offer beer for kisses.

The University was a series of old, tan, stone buildings with signs that reminded me of Harry Potter.

The main site in Salamanca is what all these folks are searching for on the façade of ones of these buildings.

Can you find the frog on top of the skull carved within all these decorations?

Well it's a lot harder in person! The side of the building is so busy with carvings and there are other skulls but without frogs. I found it after twenty minutes ish with the help of a postcard. If you find it you are supposed to get good luck for the next academic year!

Other than that we did a lot of walking around and tapas-ing. We went twice to a place called La Tostita where they had toasted bread with a variety of toppings (cream cheese and salmon, jelly and cheese, ham, etc.) priced from 1 -2 euros.

The university label extends into the night life. Going out was way better than Madrid. Cheaper, and a younger crowd. Example: we pay 15 euro to go to a club here, which includes two drinks. There we found a 10 euro entrance to an open bar. And then we found out that was cheap for Salamanca! Plus, because it's a small town you can walk from place to place and don't have to worry about lines or the metro being closed like in Madrid.

We went to a chupitos (shots) bar with all sorts of creative shots (including one that came with a lollypop as a chaser!) all for 1 euro.

Overall, it was a good weekend of sun, greenery, oldtanstone buildings, and the froggie.
